What We Are Eating: Week Six

Recap of Week 5
  • Experiment with making Musings of a Housewife's Homemade Whole Wheat Bread Recipe  a Soaked Bread Recipe and try  Upon Our Hearts's. - I was able to adapt the recipe to a soaked sandwich bread recipe.  It is so yummy! However, I did not have a chance to try Upon Our Heart's recipe.  I will have to try it this week.
  • Apply for CSA/Buying Club. - I did not get a chance to fill out the application last week, so I will do it this week.
  • Try Kefir and introduce it to kids.  - We all liked the kefir we tried.  It was a vanilla flavor.  Super good.
Good Finds
Books - Two of the books that I checked out from the library this week are phenomenal.  I will be purchasing them.

Wow, Kristy! This is great stuff! Thanks so much for sharing all of it, especially for newbies like me. Just to let you know, I posted a link to your blog on my "Whole Foods Challenge" post for this week. Thanks for your encouragement!

I'm so impressed with this! Our favorite meat-free kid-friendly meals are mac n cheese from scratch (I add hummus for flavor), pizza, and minestrone soup made with alphabet pasta!

I'm very curious to see what meatless meals you come up with. This is definitely something I want to do too. Pasta dishes might be a good way to go. Maybe red beans and rice (though I'm not sure how kid friendly this is). Pizza, and soups, as MaryAnne suggested.

You are doing such a great job and I love your weekly updates!!

MaryAnne, Thanks for sharing! My kids do love pizza. I am not sure about minestrone. Wes and Sam would probably like it; I am going to give it a shot. I would love to hear more about how you use hummus in your mac and cheese. We luv both of those!

Cara, My husband, Samantha, and I love red beans and rice. My family is originally from NOLA, so I am all about cajun goodness! Glad you are enjoying the updates. I will definitely post some vegetarian recipes I find.

Sarah, I am enjoying reading about your quest, as well. Keep up the good work! Although I am fairly new to all of this, please let me know if you have any questions or need any resources. I am happy to share.
