Halloween Reads

Kathleen, of Katydid and Kid has won this giveaway.
Thank you for entering Kathleen.
I hope you and your little one enjoy them!

Bo the Bookworm, from The Itty-Bitty Bookworm, is giving away 2 books for Halloween.

The first is Where the Wild Things Are. This book is a winner of The Caldecott Medal for the Most Distinguished Picture Book of 1964. It is a classic children's picture book about a little boy named Max who is punished for being naughty and is sent to his room with no supper. While in his room, Max uses his wild imagination to take him far away. He goes on an exciting adventure to the land of The Wild Things. However, he quickly finds himself homesick, so he returns home to his bedroom. Upon his return, he unexpectedly finds his dinner... "and it was still hot."

The second book is Room on the Broom. This book is about a witch and her cat who love to fly through the sky on their broomstick. But one day, the witch loses her hat, hair bow, and wand. Fortunately, three animals help her to find the missing items. However, in return, they want a ride on her broomstick. The only problem is ~ Will there be enough room on the broom for all of the new friends?

For activities to accompany these books, check out The Itty-Bitty Bookworm's Bo Curriculum for October Year 2.

To enter the giveaway, simply leave us a comment about another great Halloween book. Be sure to leave your email address.

The winner will be selected on Monday, October 27.

Good Luck!

My all-time favorite Halloween book is Old Devil Wind by Bill Martin Jr. My kids make me read it several times a day when it comes out at the beginning of October! They also know the story by heart by the time Halloween rolls around!

I don't know if I am even eligible since I just won, but I will comment anyway because I have a BIG-TIME Halloween favorite. (Mama was a kindergarten teacher.) It is Old Black Witch:

It can be rather expensive since it's a collectible, but it has a lot of memories for me. My mom made the pancakes with me and said the magic words!

Best Halloween book hands down is Big Pumpkin by Erica Silverman. My son absolutely looooves it! They read it at preschool and he liked it so much that I went out to Barnes and Noble and picked up a copy. Drat! (that would make more sense if you read the book)

We have this cute little pop up book (board book sized) called "Up Pop the Monsters 1-2-3" which is a counting book w/ each page containing a child in a costume (so it isn't as scary). My son loves it:)

I still love BIg Green Monster, after reading it several times the kids repeat with me"Go Away..." and we love to read it again and again, we also make our own monster faces, and use felt pieces to build and take apart the monster face as the book progresses.
Another favorite of mine, not really Halloween, but since it's about baby owls I use it this time of year, is Owl Babies by Martin Waddell and Patrick Benson. I change the names of the 3 babies to names of the children here, and again they have learned to repeat certain passages from the book with me. It's a great book about a mom going away and coming back and the feelings the baby owls have while their mom is gone. we also talk about what they eat( and we eat), and what is in their homes compared to our homes.

Not really a Halloween book, as much of a fall book, but my favorite is "The Runaway Pumpkin" by Kevin Lewis.

I loved the Berenstain Bears when I was a girl, so I'd go with The Berenstain Bears Trick or Treat or The Berenstain Bears Go on a Ghost Walk. Thanks for a great giveaway. I'd love a copy of Where the Wild THings are for my son, who believe it or not, doesn't have that book in his collection yet.
